Video to Audio Extractor
Keep only the sound of a clip: a lecture, a voice memo filmed on your phone, a live song. Pick a bitrate and get a clean MP3 in a few seconds, without sending the video anywhere.
Using the Video to Audio Extractor
Drop in your clip
Choose one or several videos from your phone or computer. Audio files such as M4A or WAV are accepted too.
Set the bitrate
Higher numbers sound better and weigh more. 192 kbps is a safe middle ground for most listening.
Listen and keep it
Play the result in the built-in player, then save the MP3. Several clips are handled one after the other.
Which bitrate should you pick?
A rough guide to file size for one minute of stereo sound.
| Bitrate | About 1 minute | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 320 kbps | 2.4 MB | Music you care about |
| 192 kbps | 1.4 MB | Everyday listening |
| 128 kbps | 0.96 MB | Podcasts, talks |
| 64 kbps | 0.48 MB | Voice notes, tiny files |

Turning a Video into an Audio File: What Actually Happens
Every video file is really a container holding at least two streams: pictures and sound. When you extract audio from a video, the picture stream is ignored and the sound stream is re-encoded as MP3, the format almost every player, car stereo and phone understands.
Situations where it helps
- You recorded a talk or a class on your phone and want to listen again on a walk.
- A band member filmed a rehearsal and you only need the mix.
- You want the background music of your own edit as a separate file.
- A messaging app compressed a video and you want to keep the voice message part.
Why nothing is uploaded
The tool loads a small audio engine into the page. Your browser reads the file from disk, converts it in memory and hands the MP3 back to you. That keeps private recordings private and avoids waiting for a big upload on a slow connection.
Tips for the best result
Pick 192 kbps unless you have a reason not to. For speech, 128 kbps is plenty. If the sound is too quiet, run it through the Audio Loudness Booster; if there is hum or fan noise, try the Background Noise Remover. Need another format such as WAV or M4A? The Audio Format Converter handles that.
Please only extract sound from videos you made or are allowed to use.
